As BSC Ontario continued to take shape, one of the biggest decisions we faced was determining the race format.
There are many different ways to structure a championship, and each has its own advantages. We looked closely at a variety of options before ultimately deciding on a format that we believe delivers the best overall experience for Briggs racers.
For 2026, every BSC Ontario event will feature two complete race days.
Both Saturday and Sunday will include:
- Practice
- Qualifying
- Pre-Final
- Final
Championship points will be awarded for both the Pre-Final and Final each day, creating four points-paying races across every weekend and 2 podium celebrations per weekend.
After listening to racers, teams and families, we believe this format offers the perfect balance of track time, competition and value.
More Racing, More Value
The most obvious benefit is simple: more racing.
Rather than spending an entire weekend building toward a single final race, competitors will have two separate opportunities to race for points and podiums.
That means more meaningful laps, more starts, more racecraft development and more value for racers making the trip to an event.
For many competitors, track time is one of the most important parts of any race weekend. This format maximizes it.
A Bad Session Doesn’t Define Your Weekend
Every racer has experienced it.
A mechanical issue.
A qualifying mistake.
A racing incident that wasn’t your fault.
In many championship formats, one unfortunate session can dramatically impact an entire weekend.
With two independent race days, racers always have another opportunity.
A difficult Saturday doesn’t prevent a driver from bouncing back on Sunday.
Likewise, a strong Saturday doesn’t guarantee success on Sunday.
The result is a championship that rewards resilience, consistency and the ability to perform throughout the season.
More Podiums, More Trophies, More Opportunities
Another major benefit of the two-race-day format is the increased number of opportunities for racers to stand on the podium.
With separate race days on Saturday and Sunday, competitors will race for podium positions twice every weekend rather than once. That means more trophies awarded, more celebrations and more chances for drivers to showcase their performance.
The same philosophy extends to prizes and awards.
BSC Ontario has assembled one of the largest prize packages in karting, and with multiple podium opportunities throughout the season, more racers will have the chance to earn recognition and rewards.
Rather than concentrating everything into a single race, the format creates more opportunities for competitors to have a successful weekend, whether that means a race win, a podium finish, a trophy or a prize package.
We believe that is better for racers, better for teams and ultimately creates a more exciting championship for everyone involved.
Built Around Existing Race Days
One of the goals when creating BSC Ontario was to elevate Briggs racing without creating additional scheduling challenges for racers, teams and host facilities.
Rather than adding entirely new race weekends to an already busy calendar, BSC Ontario has been built around existing major race events.
For Hamilton Regional Kart Club members, all three BSC Ontario events fall on previously scheduled club race weekends and will continue to count as club races.
In many ways, BSC Ontario operates as a championship within a championship.
Racers still enjoy the events they already know and attend, while also competing for a championship featuring one of the largest prize packages in karting.
A Better Championship Experience
At its core, BSC Ontario was built to provide Briggs racers with a professional, rewarding and racer-focused championship experience.
Two full race days provide:
